ENDOWMENTS & LEGACY SOCIETY

Endowments & Legacy Society

Endowment Commission

The Endowment Commission is elected by our Vestry to assist them in their oversight of our parish endowments, operating under our Endowment Policies. The consolidated endowment is invested with the Episcopal Church Foundation and operates on a “Total Return” policy, where a small percentage is drawn each year, enabling the principal investment to remain over the long-term and to increase at pace with inflation.

  • Daniels Trust – 90% of draw used to support the operating budget of our parish mission and ministries, 10% reinvested. (2nd Quarter 2023 Value, $158,526 • 2024 Draw $6,374)

  • Original Endowment Fund — Used to support the operating budget of our parish mission and ministries. (2nd Quarter 2023 Value, $108,837 • 2024 Draw $4,911)

  • Landscaping Endowment Fund – Used to support the maintenance and beautification of our campus, including the Memorial Garden and the St. Francis Garden. Gifts of $100 usually result in an inscribed brick in the pathway. (2nd Quarter 2023 Value, $44,419 • 2024 Draw $1,915)

  • Idema Mission & Outreach Fund — Used to support the mission and outreach ministries of our parish. (2nd Quarter 2023 Value,  $16,909 • 2024 Draw $698)

  • Rector’s Discretionary Fund Endowment – Used to provide additional resources to the Rector’s Discretionary Fund which responds to pious and charitable needs that arise in our parish ministry. (2nd Quarter 2023 Value, $13,530 • 2024 Draw $448)

  • Building Endowment Fund — Used to fund various improvements to our building and property—this fund is currently being built up and will be invested once it reaches $1,000. Draws will begin once it reaches $10,000. (2nd Quarter 2023 Value, $650 • No 2024 Draw)

A new Endowment Fund may be established by the Vestry with a significant gift (usually $500 or more) offered to “seed” the new Fund. The designation could be to any other area of our Parish Life. Draws are not made until the value reaches $10,000. Legacy Society

The SJE Legacy Society is our record of those currently living who have chosen to include St. John’s in their estate planning and have given the Parish Office a record of the designation. When people make an estate provision for the church and count themselves as members of our Legacy Society, they are not just receiving recognition, but giving witness to their faith through the church.

  • You can read more about the Legacy Society in the brochure online here. You can also click here to see the current members of the St. John’s Legacy Society.
