Community of the arts

Formation through Art & Music

The goal of the SJE Community of the Arts (COTA) is to create a community hub where people of all ages and abilities can find the connection between individual creative expression, social justice, and spiritual development. COTA arts programs include community theater productions, art workshops, exhibits/installations, musical events, etc. and are designed to encourage both members of SJEGH and our neighbors to engage as active participants in the arts, rather than simply as audience members.

Through the universal language of the arts, COTA events spread SJE’s inclusive and loving message:

  • Promoting peacemaking, sustainability, and inclusion

  • Championing diversity of thought, belief, and culture

  • Cultivating common ground

  • Building community between the church and our larger geographic community

COTA seeks to partner with all ministries in our parish. This group has demonstrated how the arts can connect us both within our church and with the community in general.

There have been multiple events since the forming of COTA, such as: Our Town (in partnership with Lakeshore GSA Youth Group), Silence the Violence with Song (in partnership with the Gun Violence Prevention Teams from SJE and the Methodist Church of the Dunes) and most recently, Twelve Angry Jurors with the Timberlake Guild Performers.
